The 2022 season is right around the corner and Arkansas football is hoping to build on the previous two campaigns under Sam Pittman.

I’m just going to come out and say it: I’m a huge believer in Sam Pittman and Arkansas football. The Razorbacks just seem to have that it factor with Pittman at the helm and he’s already turned the program around from a laughingstock to a nine-win team in two years.

Arkansas hadn’t won a single conference game under Chad Morris for two years but Pittman has made the Razorbacks respectable in the SEC.

Will they be serious contenders in 2022 after a nine-win season in 2021?

Despite losing Desmond Ridder, Sauce Gardner, and Jerome Ford to the NFL, Luke Fickell will have a team capable of pushing for a playoff spot out of the Group of Five yet again. Will Evan Prater be the guy? We don’t know yet.

Cincinnati will give Arkansas a test to start the year, but I think Pittman and the Razorbacks pick up a statement win and show that they’re for real, defeating the Group of Five’s best team.

Prediction: Win (1-0)

Spencer Rattler transferred to South Carolina with hopes of rejuvenating his career after a tough fallout with Oklahoma and I think he’s going to do just that.

This is a game that might be one of the most intriguing in Week 2 and it should have the feel of a battle between SEC contenders. While these two programs may still be a year or so away from truly contending in the league, it’s a battle of up-and-comers at least.

KJ Jefferson and the Razorbacks win their first SEC game of the year, but not before Rattler puts up video game-like numbers.

Prediction: Win (2-0, 1-0 SEC)
