Heisman Trophy Candidate No. 4: EDGE Will Anderson

Will Anderson didn’t win the Heisman Trophy last season but he was probably the most dominant player in the country last season. Not only did Anderson finish with 101 tackles, but he also racked up 31 tackles for loss, as well as 17.5 sacks and three passes defended.

It’s always hard for defensive players to win the award and Charles Woodson is the only non-offensive player to ever win it and he played offense as well as special teams.

That’s why Anderson could have a shot. But since Young is the previous winner and there are a slew of big-name quarterbacks ready to battle it out, Anderson is a bit of a longshot, even though he’s probably the most dominant player in the country.

Anderson is going to need 20-some sacks or at least a bunch of turnover-forcing plays in order to get to New York for the final ceremony. That seems like the ceiling. Winning seems impossible.
