Power ranking Big 12 football head coaches ahead of 2022 season

Before all of you Oklahoma fans get upset, just know that I’m well aware that Brent Venables is going to skyrocket up this list in no time, but I’m simply basing this ranking on the fact that he hasn’t been a collegiate head coach yet. I have to give him the same treatment as Joey McGuire at Texas Tech although Venables is a bit more proven which is why he’s two spots ahead.

Venables will be up in the top five before we know it and I honestly wouldn’t be shocked if that happened after this season.

Spending years as Dabo Swinney’s right-hand man has prepared him for this, but without a single win or loss under his belt, he has to be down here.

The real sickos of college football fandom are very familiar with the name Sonny Dykes and what he’s done in his career as a head coach. He turned Louisiana Tech into a winner about a decade ago and then went to Cal and struggled a bit before taking a step back with SMU, going 30-18 in four-plus seasons.

Dykes doesn’t have the greatest resume, but TCU seems to believe he will be a good replacement for Gary Patterson who was on the sidelines for what seemed like an eternity in Fort Worth.

The jury’s still out on Dykes, so for now he’s No. 7.
