A favorable schedule

The Pac-12 has some challengers, that’s not debatable but there is no team head-and-shoulders above the Trojans — no Georgia, Alabama, or Ohio State.

USC football could potentially be that if Riley can build a fence around Southern California as Carroll once did. Pete also made USC football cool and Riley has a good chance to do that too.

Winning will help and the schedule might help USC do that immediately in 2022. The Trojans have to travel to Salt Lake and to be honest, that feels like a loss for me.

Utah is really hard to beat in that stadium. Oregon learned that lesson last season but outside of that Oct. 15th date, the Trojans’ slate isn’t too challenging.

The Notre Dame game will be tough but it won’t have an impact on the conference title race and the Trojans could lose that game and still advance to the Pac-12 title game.

A new rule that sends to the two teams with the best records won’t hurt either. Utah and Oregon play each other but USC and Oregon don’t. USC’s other tough matchup is probably a trip to Stanford and the matchup against UCLA.

But if the Trojans just beat the teams they should beat based on talent alone, USC should be right in contention for the Pac-12 title at the season’s end whether they beat Utah or not.

And if the Trojans gel enough to reach the Pac-12 title game, it seems like beating USC twice will be a tall order for Utah.

Either way, winning the Pac-12, isn’t far-fetched for USC football in 2022, at all.
