1. Brayden Schager will throw for over 300 yards

It isn’t even locked in that Schager will be the top quarterback on the depth chart for the Hawaii football team come game time, given competition from Pitt transfer Joey Yellen and Washington State transfer Cammon Cooper. But, presuming he’s the job winner, he’ll throw for over 300 yards against a Vanderbilt defense that ranked 103rd in the nation in passing yards per play allowed.

One of the most underrated moves in college football this offseason was head coach Timmy Chang adding Ian Shoemaker as offensive coordinator.

Shoemaker was previously the offensive coordinator at Eastern Washington, where his offenses set gaudy numbers. In 2021, EWU was first nationally in FCS in yards per game, gaining over 550 yards per game.

Nearly 400 of those yards came through the air, and it’s for this reason why Schager will throw for a bunch. While it would be a reach for Hawaii to put up that kind of night – especially in their first game – it’s not too much to expect a Hawaii quarterback to throw for 300 yards in what promises to be an interesting close to the weekend.
