3 most overrated college football teams heading into 2022
1. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Like Oregon, I do think Notre Dame is one of the 25 best teams in college football, but I just don’t believe the Irish should be ranked as highly as they are. I mean, is it really justified to have the Irish at No. 5 after they lost Brian Kelly to LSU, lost the Fiesta Bowl, lost their starting quarterback, lost their starting running back, and lost their All-American safety? Absolutely not.
Notre Dame is replacing so much talent and although I do think Tyler Buchner is going to be that next great Irish quarterback, he’s still super inexperienced and he doesn’t have many proven targets around him other than Michael Mayer.
Plus, Marcus Freeman has never been a head coach before and he spent just one season as a defensive coordinator with the Irish so he’s still kind of learning the program.
Fans and players are buying into Freeman, and deservedly so, but I think he’s going to take some lumps in his first year as head coach. He’ll lose to Ohio State in the opener and begin his Notre Dame career 0-2 and we’ll really see what he’s made of.
Notre Dame is just not a top-five squad.
