2. LSU Tigers

Another team that I never thought I’d consider “underrated” heading into a season, LSU should also be ranked, as I believe Texas should.

The Tigers are led by a new head coach in Brian Kelly and that’s an upgrade — no offense to Ed Orgeron. I thought Orgeron was a great fit at LSU, but with everything going on, it was just the right time to part ways and for the program to start fresh. He will be remembered for leading the Tigers to a national title behind one of the best offenses in college football history, however.

Kelly comes to town looking to turn things around quickly and he has the pieces to do just that with Kayshon Boutte returning after missing the end of the 2021 season with an injury. He also has the talented redshirt freshman Garrett Nussmeier competing with Arizona State transfer Jayden Daniels for the starting quarterback job — the latter looks like the favorite to win.

Noah Cain has transferred in from Penn State to add to the backfield depth and the defense has gotten better in just about every position group.

LSU is going to cause problems in the SEC this season.
