Believe it or not, Mike Gundy is the best the Big 12 has to offer these days. Is that a bad thing? Not really, but I didn’t think I’d be ranking him as a top-10 coach in college football ahead of the 2022 season.

But Gundy has been a model of consistency with Oklahoma State since he took over in 2005. He missed a bowl game in his first year and has made one in every single season since. He has at least seven wins in every single year outside of his first and he has an 11-5 record in bowl games — that includes a 2-1 record in New Year’s Six/BCS bowls.

Gundy fell short of winning his first Big 12 title since 2011 — when his Cowboys finished No. 3 in the country — as the Cowboys came just inches short of beating Baylor in the title game, literally. He still made the Fiesta Bowl, beat Notre Dame, and won 12 games in a single season for just the second time ever.

Oklahoma State has to feel lucky to have the longest-tenured head coach in the Big 12 and the best, at that. He’s the new big dog on campus with Lincoln Riley bolting to USC.
