Ranking college football’s top 25 head coaches for 2022
After a lengthy NFL playing career, Jim Harbaugh decided to get into coaching almost immediately following his retirement. He spent a couple of seasons as a Raiders assistant coach and then took over his first college football program in San Diego.
With San Diego, Harbaugh went 29-6, proving he had what it takes to succeed in college football and then he was hired away to Stanford in 2007. He went 29-21 with the Cardinal which had been a Pac-10 bottom-dweller for years and ended his career there with a 12-1 record and Orange Bowl win in 2010.
Harbaugh had unprecedented success with Stanford before taking over the San Francisco 49ers and he went 44-19 in the NFL before taking his coaching chops back to college with his alma mater: Michigan.
Although he won 10 games in three of his first four seasons, many wondered if he had what it took to get Michigan to that next level. After six years with no Big Ten title, he was on the hot seat, but he proved doubters wrong in 2021 with that elusive conference championship and his first win over Ohio State.
Will he build on this in 2022 or will Harbaugh come back down to earth?
