College football’s 2022 hot seat: 5 coaches who need to win in Week 1

3. Mike Norvell (Florida State at LSU)

Norvell might be on the hottest seat that makes the list this week. Norvell’s tenure at Florida State has been underwhelming and he’ll kick off the season against a man making his LSU debut in Brian Kelly.

Norvell’s Seminoles are yet again projected to be in the middle of the pack in the ACC, but a hot start against an SEC opponent would give Florida State a level of confidence the program hasn’t seen since the Jimbo days. It’s even more key after last year’s season-opening disaster against Jacksonville State where Florida State lost to the FCS program on the last play of the game.

This might be more of a “must keep it competitive” game than a “must win,” but either way, Norvell’s Seminoles
