We’re making some bold predictions for the Houston football team as they take on the UTSA Roadrunners in the 2022 college football season opener.

The Houston football team has high expectations in their final year in the American Athletic Conference, looking to finish their tenure with some momentum before they join the Big 12 and morph into a Power Five team. Some are even wondering if they can be this year’s Cincinnati and make it to the College Football Playoff this season.

Before their Power Five era begins, they’ll kick off one final season in the AAC with a tough contest from one of the hottest teams in the Group of Five, the UTSA Roadrunners.

This is just the third ever meeting between the two teams, each having won a game a piece in 2013 and 2014.

Let’s take a look at some predictions for this really intriguing Week 1 matchup.

1. Clayton Tune will have a huge game

QB Clayton Tune had an outstanding 2021 college football season, recording 3,546 passing yards, 30 touchdowns, and just 10 interceptions.

The senior out of Carrollton, Texas should be appearing on the radar of NFL scouts if he isn’t already.

His 6-foot-3, 220-pound frame fits the NFL mold and he’s athletic enough to beat you with his legs if he needs to. However, passing is where Tune does his best work.

He had 10 games last season in which he threw for 230 or more yards. He even eclipsed the 400-yard mark when the Cougars held off No. 19 SMU last October.

Expect Tune to carve up the UTSA defense and get his Cougars off to a hot start. He loves the long ball and will use that to help open up the running game and wear down the Roadrunners. Tune might get close to the 300-yard passing mark here in the season opener.
