SEC Football: Best games week-by-week in the 2022 season
By Shelbie Warr
Week 6: Texas A&M at Alabama
This one is likely the most looked at game of the year, a rematch of the biggest SEC upset of last year — the Aggies and the Crimson Tide. Between a kick heard around the college football world and a kick-off return for the ages, the game was great for those wearing maroon. However, for those wearing Crimson, it was gut-wrenching and heart-breaking. It exposed weaknesses for the Tide and then they continued on to lose the national title win game against Georgia, who was likely the best team in college football last season — or at least the best defense in the league.
Now, Alabama is on a revenge tour after their “rebuilding year” that saw a playoff berth and a Heisman winner at quarterback. Things are about to get interesting.
Honorable Mention: Arkansas at Mississippi State
Arkansas is predicted to finish at least third in the SEC West and things are looking up in Fayetteville with KJ Jefferson at quarterback. In Starkville, things may be looking the opposite way. If my opinion is correct, this may be the last or last couple of years for Mike Leach at Mississippi State. Will the Bulldog quarterback Will Rogers be able to put up a good season or at least a good enough one to get a bowl game this season? If they are, this game will be pivotal for them as they play in the SEC West.
Week 7: Arkansas at BYU
This one is an exciting matchup in my opinion, as far as non-conference matchups go. BYU is replacing Zach Wilson at quarterback and Arkansas has KJ Jefferson, who may be one of the better quarterbacks in the SEC this year. However, playing in Provo is never an easy task and Arkansas is replacing Treylon Burks who was over 60 percent of their receiving production a year ago. Can the Razorbacks take a win over the Cougars at BYU?
Honorable Mention: LSU at Florida
LSU and Florida always put on a show, whether from the play on the field or from the throwing of shoes between plays, things get exciting. Now, we have two teams that have more questions than answers surrounding their programs facing off halfway through the season in a game that could be pivotal for both teams. Will the Swamp come out as a strong home-field advantage for the Gators or does LSU take care of business despite being on the road?
