ACC Football Power Rankings, Week 1: Can Clemson reclaim the throne?

8. North Carolina (1-0)
The Tar Heels have two critical questions they have to answer going into this season. First, who steps up for running back British Brooks and wide receiver Antoine Green? The Tar Heels cannot go into playing Josh Downs or bust at receiver this season, especially with a new quarterback at the helm of the offense.
More important than those critical injuries is the defense. The defense allowed over 32 points per game last year, including surrendering 45 points to a three-win Georgia Tech squad. It’s time for the defense to play to its potential. They can’t blame its youth for their indiscretions this year.
7. Wake Forest (1-0)
The Demon Deacons have a very quarterback-friendly offense. In addition, A.T. Perry and Donovan Green are one of the ACC’s better 1-2 wide receiver combos. That said, the Deacons need Sam Hartman at quarterback.
Mitch Griffis is the starter for now, and he should do well; he’s been in the system for three years. He did play well against FCS opponent VMI in the season opener. However, Hartman is not only experienced, but he’s also the heart and soul of the team. Wake’s success or failure depends heavily on the timetable for his return.
6. Florida State
The Seminoles look to take another step toward being a contender in the ACC again. They won their opener against FCS opponent Duquesne. Quarterback Jordan Travis’ maturation is the key to their success this season.
The Seminoles should have one of the better defenses in the conference. Kaden Lyles’ injury hurts the offensive line. How will adding Oregon transfers Johnny Wilson and Micah Pittman affect the receiving corps?
