Texas A&M football fought both the Bearkats and the weather today as they won 31-0 at Kyle Field. What did we learn about the Aggies in their season opener?

For the first time since 1993, the Aggies open the season with a shutout. However, it was far from a perfect game for Texas A&M. We did learn a lot about Texas A&M through every facet of the game, starting with the quarterback Haynes King — who was given the majority of the game to figure things out.

Let’s start there.

4. Haynes King still has a lot of work to do

King is the starting quarterback for the Aggies and Jimbo Fisher seems to be sure of that. However, he showed in this one that he still has a lot of work to do. The third-year man has played two full games in his Aggie career and has thrown five interceptions in those two- against Kent State and Sam Houston State.

Now, they have to face the likes of App State and Miami before heading into SEC play and he has to figure this turnover problem out. App State put up 40 points in the fourth quarter alone today and obviously doesn’t need help putting up points, so King and the offense cannot give them help by turning the ball over.

King did show that he can move the ball with his legs as well as through the air and that is definitely a plus for Texas A&M, however, he has to do better with being consistent throughout the matchup. He has to do more of the throw shown above to Yulkieth Brown and less of turning the ball over.
