Jackson State Football: 3 Takeaways from dominant win over FAMU
By Dante Pryor
3. The Rattlers never got anything going in this game.
Florida A&M came into this game with much more than football weighing heavily on them. Players from the team wrote FAMU president Dr. Larry Davis a letter — 89 players signed the letter — citing several deficiencies in the athletic department. According to the letter, these issues led to 26 players being ruled ineligible for their season-opener against UNC.
Despite having a limited roster, the Rattlers showed heart, grit, and fight against the North Carolina Tar Heels, scoring 24 points and hanging around for nearly a half. Vanderbilt transfer Jeremy Moussa looked good in that game, throwing for 279 yards and two touchdowns.
Whatever fight they had against the Tar Heels, they had none left for the Tigers. The game got away from the Rattlers early, and they could not recover. Florida A&M had no answers for the Tigers’ offense, with Jackson State scoring touchdowns on their first three possessions.
The offense never got going for the Rattlers, mustering just 155 yards. As good as Moussa was against UNC, he was equally bad against Jackson State. The Vanderbilt transfer completed just 30 percent of his passes, throwing two interceptions.
The running game didn’t help matters either. FAMU ran for 34 yards on 28 rush attempts.
