The most impressive victory was Ohio State defeating No. 5 ranked Notre Dame and the dominant performance by the Buckeyes new and improved defense.

The biggest surprise was Iowa not scoring a touchdown to defeat South Dakota State but the Hawkeyes defense played a near flawless game in their win over the Jackrabbits.

The most exciting game was Rutgers coming back down 21-12 on the road against Boston College and defeating the Eagles in the season opener for both teams.

The best individual performance on offense goes to Nebraska running back Anthony Grant who rushed for 189 yards and 2 touchdowns and had a strong second half performance helping lead the Cornhuskers to their first victory of the season.

The most outstanding defense performance goes to Michigan State linebacker Jacoby Windmon who had four sacks, seven tackles, and caused a forced fumble helping the Spartans limit the Western Michigan offense in Michigan State’s win over the Broncos.

The best special team’s performance goes to Michigan’s field goal kicker Jake Moody who was a perfect three for three on his field goal attempts and made all six of his extra point attempts to help the Wolverines win their season opener over Colorado State.

Best coaching performance goes to Minnesota’s P.J. Fleck who went up against former Gopher head coach Jerry Kill and his New Mexico State team. Fleck not only coached a great game with his team defeating the Aggies by playing well on both sides of the ball but also took time in the post game to be respectful and not hold any grudges against Kill due to Kill’s past comments about him.

The most outstanding play goes to Wisconsin’s running back Braelon Allen with his 96-yard touchdown run.

The Big Ten in non-conference play still has plenty to prove to make a strong case that they are on the same level as the SEC but they definitely are making a case from top to bottom that they can win games against other teams from various conferences.
