No Easy Way Out by Robert Tepper

Whoever wins the Big 12 this season will not have it easy. It was the first conference that used a round-robin format to determine its champion. Though Oklahoma has dominated the discussion, even the Sooners have been subject to the upset loss, ask Kansas State.

This season is no different. The Big 12 has such a high variance that even the conference champion could lose a game or two. Anyone surviving the gauntlet that is the Big 12 has to do two things, run the football and play solid defense.

We did not learn much about the conference after week one; everyone (except West Virginia) played either Group of Five or FCS opponents. The competition gets stiffer for most of the teams in the conference in week two.

Can the Baylor Bears repeat as conference champions? How will Brent Venables fare in his first season as head coach of Oklahoma? Can Texas compete in Quin Ewers’ first year as starting quarterback?

These are some of the many exciting storylines in the Big 12 this season.
