Week 1 of the 2022 college football season is in the books and here are some of the hottest takes from the opening slate of games.

College football’s opening week of play lived up to all the hype, and then some.

From Thursday until Monday night’s LSU-Florida State debacle, there was no shortage of excitement. Every single time slot of the weekend featured a game that caught everyone’s attention and that’s going to carry over into Week 2.

We also learned a lot from Week 1 and hot takes are currently being formed.

Here are my five hottest takes from Week 1 of the 2022 season.

5. USC is the Pac-12’s only hope of relevance

Watching the Pac-12 this past weekend was tough. The league’s top team (Utah) fell against an unranked Florida team, 29-26, in The Swamp. The second-best team (Oregon) was dismantled, 49-3, in what felt like an illegal game to watch against Georgia.

The league’s third-best team, USC, was able to play a cupcake in Rice for the opener and they put up 66 points and looked like Trojan teams of the past.

Outside of those squads, Oregon State looked decent against Boise State, UCLA had about 15 fans in attendance to watch its win over Bowling Green, Washington rolled a bad Kent State team, and Washington State struggled against Idaho. These are likely the league’s top teams for 2022 and the only one that really looked good was USC and maybe Oregon State or Washington.

USC seems like the league’s only hope for relevance and playoff consideration after a week of action.
