ACC football power rankings, Week 2: Clemson far from fixed

6. Wake Forest Demon Deacons (1-0)
The best news the Wake Forest Demon Deacons got after their 44-10 blowout victory against VMI is that Sam Hartman is cleared to play. The redshirt senior had a “non-football injury.” The Deacons acknowledged that Hartman had Paget-Schrotter Syndrome, which causes blood clots.
First and foremost, we here at headquarters are happy that Hartman is okay. The news is good for Wake because that could change their season’s fortunes.
5. Miami Hurricanes (1-0)
There wasn’t much to learn from the Hurricanes’ 70-13 thrashing of Bethune-Cookman at Hard Rock Stadium. There will likely be little to learn from their game this weekend against Southern Mississippi.
We’ll know if the Hurricanes are contenders or pretenders when they travel to College Station to take on the Texas A&M Aggies on Sept. 17.
4. Syracuse Orange (1-0)
In the “no one saw that coming” game of the week, the Syracuse Orange thoroughly defeated the Louisville Cardinals this past weekend. Quarterback Garrett Schrader showed great comfort in new offensive coordinator Robert Anae’s offense, throwing for 236 yards and rushing for 94 more yards.
The defense sacked quarterback Malik Willis three times and forced three turnovers. After traveling to Storrs to play UConn, the Orange host Purdue in the Carrier Dome.
