Pac-12 football power rankings, Week 2: USC, Arizona shine in openers
By Dante Pryor
5. Washington State Cougars (1-0)
The Washington State Cougars won a close game against the Idaho Vandals 24-17. The game did appear to be a “don’t put too much on tape” sort of game. The Cougars looked pretty good on the ground, with Nakia Watson running for over 100 yards. Transfer quarterback Cameron Ward was solid, throwing for 215 yards and three touchdowns.
The Cougars will learn how good they are next week when they travel to Camp Randall Stadium to play the Wisconsin Badgers.
4. UCLA Bruins (1-0)
The Bruins slept through the first quarter of their game against Bowling Green. The Bruins woke up in the second quarter and outscored the Falcons 38-7 the rest of the game. Veteran quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson looked outstanding, scoring four total touchdowns.
The Bruins host Alabama State and South Alabama before traveling to Boulder for their season opener against the Buffaloes.
3. Oregon State Beavers (1-0)
The season opener for the Oregon State Beavers could not have gone any better in their 34-17 win against Boise State. Quarterback Chance Nolan threw for 251 yards, and two touchdowns and the defense forced five turnovers in the win. Head coach Johnathan Smith wants to prove he can sustain success in Corvallis.
The Beavers could be undefeated going into Pac-12 play if they can get past Mountain West contender Fresno State next week.
