The season is on the brink

This is a pretty clear takeaway but the season isn’t necessarily over. Getting to the College Football Playoff was going to be an uphill battle after last week, although it wouldn’t have been possible.

That’s over now.

The best Notre Dame football can do is make a New Year’s Six bowl game and the only way that will happen is if the Irish win out and that won’t be easy with BYU, USC, and Clemson on the schedule. It would still be an accomplishment if it happened.

Buchner needs to get a lot better. The offense as a whole needs to improve and quickly. The defense hasn’t been bad and really only gave up 19 points if you take away the pick-six. It’s hard to win a game when you throw three interceptions. There’s no getting around that.

The bigger worry is that Notre Dame got beat in the trenches by Marshall. There aren’t many cupcakes on the schedule either, so the Irish need to get things turned around quickly, or it could get very ugly in South Bend and it could threaten the prized 2023 recruiting class.
