Louisville football went into hostile territory and picked up its first win of the season, beating UCF by six. What’d we learn?

It’s been an interesting season so far for Louisville football. After a season-opening blowout loss to ACC bottom-dweller Syracuse, the Cardinals went into hostile territory to beat one of the AAC’s best teams in UCF.

Sitting at 1-1 after Friday night’s win, the Cardinals have a lot to work on, but we did learn some key things about Louisville in their hard-nosed comeback win.

What’d we learn from the Cardinals’ gutsy win on Friday night?

3. Louisville needs to be much more disciplined

In the season-opening loss to Syracuse, Louisville had seven penalties for 50 yards. That wasn’t too bad, but there needed to be some improvement in that category.

How did the Cardinals respond to that seven-penalty opener? By racking up a whopping 12 penalties against UCF. Although they didn’t even break 100 penalty yards on the dozen penalties, it’s still a momentum-killer.

Far too often, Louisville would make a play on offense or get a big stop, and then it was negated by a horrible penalty. That cannot happen moving forward.

Scott Satterfield has to make sure his team is more disciplined.
