Scott Frost has had an awful start to his 2022 season with Nebraska football and fans have to be wondering when the nightmare will be over.
Describe the Scott Frost era in one word.
Now that you’ve said “nightmare”, let’s discuss why he may have just coached his last game with Nebraska football.
The Cornhuskers just lost to Georgia Southern on Saturday night in one of the worst losses in Nebraska history. They looked like they were going to escape with a win in an unlikely shootout after scoring a touchdown to go ahead 42-38 with three minutes left, but Georgia Southern marched down the field to take the lead back with 38 seconds left.
Nebraska missed the potential tying field goal and the nightmare became reality.
Frost dropped to 1-2 on the season and his overall record is now an unfathomable 16-31 with the Cornhuskers. Losing at home to a team that just moved over from the FCS recently was the cherry on top of the nightmare sundae that has been Nebraska football for the past decade.
While Frost didn’t ruin the culture (that can be attributed to the end of the Bo Pelini era and Mike Riley’s struggles), he also hasn’t helped it. He hasn’t improved the program in any aspect and he’s steering right toward another bowl-less season after going 3-9 in 2021.
It would take a miracle to right this ship in time for the rest of Big Ten play and his buyout is cut in half on Oct. 1, but it just feels like waiting until that happens is just not worth it.
It may be time to just cut the losses and move on. It’s not like Nebraska doesn’t have the money.
Thank Frost for his time as a player and his attempt at turning the Cornhuskers around, but move on. Losing to Georgia Souther is the nail in the coffin and it’s too late to come back from this.
Did Frost coach his last game in Lincoln? I truly believe so.
