Texas A&M football falls to App State and things are looking bleak in College Station, despite a lot of preseason hype. What did we learn about the Aggies?

The Aggies fell to Appalachian State today in a defensive struggle in which they showed very little heart and even less desire to win. The Mountaineers were ready for this game and the Aggies were not. It is that simple.

There isn’t much to say on that topic besides that, so let’s talk takeaways.

3. Time of possession killed the Aggies from start to finish

The Aggies were outdone on time of possession, 18:30 to 41:30. They didn’t hold on to the ball when they had it, with two lost fumbles, and when they were on the field the App State defense held them out of any kind of hope.

Texas A&M did not do anything on the offensive side of the ball outside of the two times that Devon Achane took it to the house, once in the first half to tie it at 7-7 and another on a kickoff return to tie it at 14, Otherwise, the team looked flat and the defense looked gassed as they had to be on the field over half the game trying to keep these big runners to small chunks instead of big plays.

Overall, the defense couldn’t keep much of anything going because the offense didn’t let them rest due to either quick three and outs or scoring quickly- something that only happened twice. Overall, this was an unacceptable performance for an SEC offense.
