BYU Football: 3 takeaways from clutch overtime win over No. 9 Baylor
1. BYU is the favorite to be this year’s Cincinnati
Last year, Cincinnati had to prove itself early in the season with a tough matchup against a Notre Dame team on the road. This year, BYU had to prove itself against a top-10 Baylor team at home without two of its best offensive weapons.
Both teams prevailed.
Unlike Cincinnati, BYU is facing an absolute gauntlet this season. This was the first step to an undefeated season and we should see the Cougars vault to somewhere near the top 10 in the Week 3 AP Top 25. A win over a top-10 Big 12 team without two top players is something not many teams can do, but BYU is better than people think.
Before the season, the Cougars were being tabbed as unranked by a number of AP voters. Even last week, many didn’t see BYU as a Top 25 team. That changed after Saturday night.
The Cougars passed their first big test and look like the best non-Power Five team in the country right now. They may just be this year’s Cincinnati.
