Big Ten West teams did not fare well in Week 2. With the multiple losses in nonconference play, the power rankings look different this week.

Entering this season, there was only a small divide between the two Big Ten football divisions in regular season play. The East held a 77-70 record in head-to-head contests since the conference went to the geographic split for the 2014 season.

It has been more lopsided in Big Ten football championship games, with the East division taking all eight matchups. It is, for this reason, that there have been calls from fans for the conference to break up the current division format.

Through two weeks of the season, the Big Ten football’s West division is living up to its reputation of being the weaker of the two divisions.

All of the East teams are undefeated while the West has been a mixed bag. Wisconsin, Iowa, and Purdue have all taken losses with the Hawkeyes looking especially inept. Scott Frost has been fired at Nebraska. Minnesota may be the best of the bunch but the Gophers have not been tested yet.

With the disappointing results from Week 2, it has provided somewhat of a shakeup in this week’s power rankings. While it is still early in the season, the East division certainly looks to be the stronger side once again.
