Originally wrote this as the end is near for Scott Frost in Lincoln. How soon that end came as Frost was relieved of his coaching duties after the Huskers’ 45-42 loss to Georgia Southern Saturday night.

Nebraska’s offense played well enough to win. Scored 42 points, racked up 545 yards, and did not commit any turnovers. But the defense, which had been the better unit during most of Frost’s tenure, gave up 642 yards and could not stop the Eagles in critical situations.

It will be interesting to see where the Huskers go from here. Receivers coach Mickey Joseph has been named the interim coach. With the early season firing, AD Trev Alberts has an early jump on who he wants to bring in next. Alberts must make this hire count to build back this once-proud program.

The Wildcats dug themselves a big hole, falling behind Duke 21-0 early second quarter. They climbed their way back into it, being down eight points late in the game. But the Wildcats’ third turnover of the day inside the Duke 10-yard line sealed their fate.

The Wildcat defense appeared to have made some strides in their Week 0 win against Nebraska. The improvements evaporated in Week 2 as the Blue Devils racked up over 460 yards in total offense. Northwestern will look to course correct next week against Southern Illinois.

After a big win against Illinois last week, Indiana struggled some against Idaho and was down 10-0 to the Vandals at halftime. The Hoosiers came out in the second half and scored touchdowns on five consecutive drives to win 35-22.

After just totaling 110 yards in the first half, the Hoosiers more than doubled that total with 239 yards in the third quarter. Running back Shaun Shivers had a solid night with 155 yards on 20 carries and a touchdown.

Everything clicked for Indiana in the second half. But they are going to need better starts as they get more into Big Ten play. The Hoosiers host Western Kentucky next week.
