13 best College Football picks for Week 3: Can Oregon upset BYU?
College football Week 3 predictions and picks are here, featuring the biggest and best games— including Oregon vs BYU and Texas A&M vs Miami.
College football is just now starting to hit its stride with a busy Week 3 on the horizon. We have a couple of Friday night games and a massive Saturday jam-packed with great games.
If you’re a returning reader to this column, I’m glad you’re back. If you’re new here, I’m giving my picks and predictions for the best college football games each week of the season.
I went 7-6 in my Week 2 picks and move to 12-9 overall on the season. I’m taking a look at three different actions and giving you the best pick for that game (moneyline, over/under, or the spread).
Let’s go ahead and dive into the best Friday-night game and one of the best early games in Week 3 of college football.
Note: all games are set for Saturday, Sept. 16 unless otherwise noted. All times central.
Florida State at Louisville (Friday, Sept. 16 at 6:30 PM on ESPN)
There are two games on national television on Friday and, with all due respect to Air Force and Wyoming, everyone wants to see how Head Coach Mike Norvell and the Florida State Seminoles follow up their stellar upset win over LSU from Week 1 (they had an open date for Week 2).
Louisville has a really dynamic quarterback in Malik Cunningham. He threw for more than 200 yards and rushed for more than 100 yards last week at UCF. However, their defense is giving up nearly 400 yards of offense through two games.
Florida State is going to be well-rested, fine-tuned, and ready to pick up a big road win over the Cardinals. Take the ‘Noles and the points in this one—they’re going to take advantage of UL’s porous defense.
Pick: Florida State -2
No. 1 Georgia at South Carolina (11 AM on ESPN)
We’re only two weeks into the 2022 college football season, but Georgia has looked every bit like the team to beat this season. They have made few (if any) mistakes so far this season. Their offense looks solid and their defense is still scary good. The Bulldogs have given me zero reason to think they’ll have any trouble on their schedule until they play No. 18 Florida on Oct. 29.
Georgia didn’t cover last week against Samford, but the line was set at -53, which is insane. Georgia is not a team that’s going to put on an offensive clinic, they’re going to let their defense do the talking. But, with a young and inexperienced quarterback in Spencer Rattler, Georgia is going to pressure him and force him to make mistakes. The Bulldogs will capitalize and win big.
