The coaching carousel has already begun to spin in 2022.

The college football head coaches’ hot seat has already claimed one victim.

In one of the easiest-to-see-moves in recent college football history, Nebraska finally decided to part ways with native son Scott Frost after a new program low. The Huskers lost a game to Georgia Southern, which they barely ever led, by a score of 45-42. Win or lose, the game was truly one of the most embarrassing performances in the storied history of Nebraska football.

Mickey Joseph was named new interim head coach. Now we see if Nebraska is really in this rough shape or of Frost has actually been holding the program back. It’s not fair to put Joseph on the hot seat: his title states he’s just a temporary coach anyways. Of course, that’s subject to change with a strong finish to 2022.

While Frost worked himself off the list (in the worst way possible) other unexpected coaches have worked their way on it. And after a wild week two of the season, some of these college football head coaches might not “officially” be on the hot seat, but they’re certainly heading that way.

Jimbo Fisher: vs (13) Miami:

Let’s just start out by saying that the likelihood of Fisher being shown the door is slim to none.

After all, how does a coach that was given a literal undated National Championship trophy end up on the hot seat after just over four seasons? Simple: routinely underwhelm, possess a really bad offense and lose at home to App State. Jimbo has now successfully done both of those.

Now Jimbo’s Aggies host a Miami team that needs this win just as bad as A&M does, with the difference being Miami’s Mario Cristobal is firmly in the safe zone.

A&M needs to be more creative on offense. It’s as if Fisher hasn’t evolved at all on that side of the ball since his days at Florida State. The numbers don’t tell the full story. There was a struggle for most of the game against Sam Houston State and then the App State game was a disaster where A&M could only muster 180 yards of total offense.

A&M needs to start heating up before things get much worse as Arkansas, Mississippi State and Alabama await.
