6. Bill O’Brien (+1000, 9 percent implied probability)

I believe we are going to start hearing the name Bill O’Brien more and more when it comes to the Nebraska football job.

For starters, he took over an absolute mess at Penn State, a program that was in worse shape than Nebraska due to all the off-the-field issues and he won. He didn’t stay for long but he righted the ship quickly.

Following a pretty successful stint as head coach for the Houston Texans, O’Brien has been working as the OC for Nick Saban and the guys who have held that job, have worked out pretty well at other places, especially Lane Kiffin.

O’Brien is known for coaching quarterbacks and the proof is in the pudding at Alabama. He’s a great football coach. But my question about him is recruiting. Can he and will he recruit?

O’Brien seems like he would rather be in the NFL. If he was able to keep Joseph on the staff, that would help but if he wants to be a college head coach, he needs to make that commitment on the recruiting trail and that’s my biggest concern.

On the football side of things, O’Brien is as good as it gets. But in college football, recruiting is more important than on-field coaching, or at least just as important.

That’s why O’Brien is still at Alabama. It’s also why I don’t see him being the next Nebraska football head coach. My prediction is Campbell or Joseph.
