No. 4 Mark Stoops (+700, 12 percent implied probability)

When I put together a list of candidates for Nebraska football near the end of the 2021 season, just in case Frost was fired, Mark Stoops was near the top of my list.

The move makes too much sense for Nebraska. Stoops has connections to Ohio and the Midwest (where the Huskers really need to recruit) and is also a defensive guru. He’s turned Kentucky into a contender and is fresh off a win at the swamp.

Most fans would love it. The problem? I don’t see Stoops leaving the SEC for Nebraska. That’s just my opinion and I think these odds are way too high.

No. 5 Luke Fickell (+900, 10 percent implied probability)

As with Stoops, Fickell would be a dream hire for Nebraska. He would be my first call if I was Trev Alberts, only I don’t expect him to be interested.

Fickell could have had a number of head-coaching jobs, including Michigan State in the Big Ten a few years ago before Mel Tucker. I believe he’s holding out for Ohio State.

Cincinnati goes into the Big 12 next year and with the playoff getting expanded to 12, the Bearcats will just need to win that league most of the time to make it. Recruiting wil get better and until the job at Ohio State or somewhere else comes open, he can win big where he’s at.

This should be a one-percent probability.
