Miami football heads into SEC country in Week 3 to get a crack at Texas A&M for the first time since 2008.

The Hurricanes (2-0) are coming off a solid win against Southern Miss while the Aggies (1-1) are still reeling a bit from their shocking 17-14 home loss vs Appalachian State last week.

This is the first big game in the Mario Cristobal era for The U. How will the Canes respond against a team with a ton of talent on both sides of the ball?

I’m taking a look at three reasons why I’m expecting the Miami Hurricanes to defeat Texas A&M at Kyle Field this week.

3. Miami football QB Tyler Van Dyke has been preparing for this moment

Sophomore QB Tyler Van Dyke didn’t get really get his chance to show what he could do against an SEC defense last season, despite the Canes playing against No. 1 Alabama in the 2021 season opener.

Van Dyke attempted just one pass vs No. 1 Alabama and picked up 17 yards on three rushing attempts in that 44-13 loss.

You might remember D’eriq King was the starter for Miami heading into the 2021 college football season. He played in the team’s first three games before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury.

Van Dyke was then installed as the starter and played really well for then-head coach Manny Diaz, picking up two consecutive ranked wins against conference opponents No. 18 NC State and No. 17 Pittsburgh.

The Glastonbury, Conn., native finished the 2021 season as the ACC Football Rookie of the Year after finishing the season with 2,931 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and just six interceptions.

After cruising to two easy wins to start the season, Van Dyke will finally get a chance to show what he can do against a team filled with five-star recruits — eight of which are freshman signings from the class of 2022.
