On the eve of College Football Week 3, here’s a look at three teams that should be on upset alert heading into the weekend.

It’s getting even harder to categorize what’s an upset in college football. Take Texas A&M football and Miami for instance.

The Hurricanes are ranked 12th overall in the AP poll after a 2-0 start, while Texas A&M is barely ranked following a home loss to App State last week — an upset we said could happen.

However, the Aggies are still a 6.5-point favorite according to the odds (via Fanduel). So is this an upset for Miami or Texas A&M?

There is a similar dynamic at play with No. 11 Michigan State (+3) at Washington, and also No. 12 BYU (+3) at Oregon. The Ducks are ranked 25th but Washington isn’t ranked at all.

To avoid confusion, we stayed away from putting those teams on the list of upset alerts. BYU and Michigan State are definitely on upset alert already, especially since they are favored to lose.

Quick Picks: BYU will suffer its first loss of the season and Oregon, as well as Bo Nix show the loss to Georgia was, well, it was a loss to Georgia. Michigan State will also beat Washington, outright. The running game will win the day and the Huskies will lose their first test under new head coach Kalen DeBoer.

Now, to the three teams on upset alert in College Football Week 3.

No. 13 Miami at No. 24 Texas A&M (-6.5)

The biggest change Texas A&M football has made comes at quarterback as former LSU transfer Max Johnson is reportedly taking over the starting job from Haynes King who struggled during the first two weeks of the season.

App State didn’t even need to score 20 points to beat the Aggies at Kyle Field and as we detailed earlier this week, Jimbo Fisher needs a win or his seat will start to get pretty hot.

All that being said, Miami is a pretty solid underdog. Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes struggled last week against Southern Miss, so they should be hungry to prove themselves too and this is the first big test.

The Aggies are more talented but that was the case last week too. Tyler Van Dyke is a stellar quarterback too and if he has a big day, Miami could leave victorious. Heck, even if Van Dyke just doesn’t lose the game, that might be all it takes with this anemic A&M offense.

Even if the Canes don’t win outright, I’d take them plus 6.5.
