Minnesota Gophers Football took on their first Power Five opponent of the year and proved they are ready for more.

Minnesota football defeated the Colorado Buffaloes by a whopping score of 49 to 7. Minnesota was dominant on both sides of the ball all game long.

The first play of the game consisted of a 19-yard run by Mohamed Ibrahim featuring him trucking two Colorado defenders. This play ended up foreshadowing and symbolizing the remainder of the game for both squads.

Minnesota football finished the day with 509 offensive yards, 343 of which came on the ground. On the other side of the ball, the Gophers’ defense held Colorado to only 227 yards and an 8.3% 3rd down conversion rate.

Here are 3 key takeaways from big Minnesota football win.

Chris Autman-Bell Injury was and would be a huge loss

On the Gophers’ final drive of the first half, Autman-Bell was running a drag route across the middle of the field when Tanner Morgan threw a ball behind him. In an effort to make a tough catch, Autman-Bell tweaked his knee and quickly fell to the ground.

Autman-Bell was clearly in pain and needed assistance from the trainers to get off the field. He did not return to the game after heading to the locker room.

Chris Autman-Bell is not only the Gophers’ No.1 wide receiver, but he is also a core leader of this team. Bell returned as one of many 6 year seniors on this gophers roster.

Prior to the injury, Autman-Bell hauled in 3 catches for 59 yards and a touchdown, with the majority of the yards coming on a long 39-yard touchdown pass down the sideline.

Currently, no update has been released on the severity of Autman-Bell’s knee injury, but we hope for a quick and healthy return.
