Syracuse Football: 3 Takeaways from home win against Purdue
By Dante Pryor
What’s next for Purdue?
If there is anything Jeff Brohm and his staff need to fix moving forward, it is the penalties. Purdue was penalized 13 times for 138 yards. They were penalized nine times for 92 yards in their season opener against Penn State. Penalties played a huge factor in both close losses. If there is one thing you cannot do in close games is make mistakes that stall drives.
This was the second close loss where the Boilermakers did not finish late either. Sean Clifford and the Nittany Lions beat Purdue with a late drive, and so did the Orange. Purdue has to be better late in games.
What’s next for Syracuse?
The Orange has taken advantage of playing five of its first six games at home with wins against Louisville and Purdue. Last season, the Orange lost three games by three points, so it is good to see that the Orange are on the winning side of a close game. Syracuse’s 3-0 start is their first since 2018, which could be a precursor for good things.
Syracuse won ten games in 2018 and won their bowl game against West Virginia. The Orange host Virginia next week before its last non-conference game against Wagner.
