Jackson State football’s defense dominates vs. Grambling State
By Dante Pryor
Today was one of those games where if you went to sleep at halftime and woke up in the fourth quarter, you asked, “what happened?” Jackson State’s 66-24 domination of the Grambling State Tigers was somewhat unexpected early. In a 21-17 game at halftime, JSU scored 24 points in the third quarter and never looked back.
Grambling State did not score in the second half until the game was already out of hand. However, the game did not start that way. Tigers’ running back Maurice Washington scored on a 73-yard touchdown run as time expired in the first quarter.
Jackson State was sluggish early in the game with some early turnovers that Grambling State turned into points. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders missed some throws early, another factor that kept Grambling State in the game during the first half.
Jackson State football was able to dominate on both sides of the ball
While Sanders was getting his rhythm throwing the football, freshman tailback Sy’Veon Wilkerson was putting on a show, running for 139 yards and a touchdown. The sophomore quarterback did find a rhythm, throwing for 325 yards and four touchdowns.
Whatever Coach Prime said at halftime worked because JSU came out white-hot in the second half, scoring 31 unanswered points in the second half. When Grambling State looked up, the score was 52-17.
