No. 3 Kansas at Houston (-9)

Speaking of Group of Five teams expected to crash the New Year’s Six party, Houston was a trendy for pick for that but after meeting up with a pair of future Big-12 opponents, the Cougars have zero chance of making that happen.

Houston lost in overtime to Texas Tech a week ago. Then, the Cougars returned home to face Kansas, another team it will face in the Big 12 starting next season. Houston was a nine-point favorite over the Jayhawks, but as we mentioned, the Cougars needed to be on upset alert.

Kansas beat West Virginia handily on the road in Week 2 and followed it up by drubbing the Cougars in Week 3. Kansas jumped ahead by 14 points in the first half and led by as many as 21 in the second as Jadon Daniels dominated, rushing for 123 yards on 12 carries (10.3 average) and scoring twice, as well as throwing for 158 yards and three scores.

Daniels didn’t have an interception. He also wasn’t sacked. Meanwhile, the KU defense swarmed Clayton Tune and sacked him four times, as well as intercepted him once.

Lance Leipold has the Jayhawks sitting at 3-0 and getting votes in the AP poll. It’s wild and it wouldn’t be shocking if a school like Nebraska came calling with a boatload of money.
