ACC Power Rankings Week 4: Florida State wins thriller against Louisville
By Dante Pryor
11. Virginia (2-1)
The Cavaliers controlled their 16-14 win against Old Dominion with 513 yards of offense. Quarterback Brennan Armstong threw for 284 yards, rushing for 54 more yards. Virginia should have blown out the Monarchs but hurt themselves with penalties and fumbles. The V-Men lost three fumbles and committed eight penalties for 80 yards.
The Cavaliers open their season at the Carrier Dome against Syracuse next Friday night. If Virginia wants to experience some success, it must fix the mistakes, especially on offense.
10. Wake Forest (3-0)
It is hard to know what to make of the Demon Deacons this season. The Deacons are 3-0 this season with two blowout wins. Then Wake Forest eeks out a one-point win against Liberty after the Flames failed to convert a two-point conversion. First, how do they give up 36 points to a Liberty team without Malik Willis?
Second, how do you play like this at home? Wake Forest forced four turnovers and could not pull away from the Flames. Liberty outscored Wake 28-17 in the second half and had to hold on to win. That could be an issue in conference play.
9. Virginia Tech (2-1, 1-0)
The Hokies’ defense was dominant in their 27-7 against Wofford. Virginia Tech took a 20-0 lead in the locker room and took their foot off of the gas the rest of the game. Grant Wells looked good throwing the football with 314 yards and two touchdowns. Virginia Tech has West Virginia next week before opening conference play against North Carolina.
