Big Ten football power rankings, Week 4: Penn State a team to beat?
By Shane Lunnen
Illinois had the week off this week. The Illini return to action this Thursday night against Chattanooga.
The Terps earned a solid victory this week over previously unbeaten SMU. The Mustangs were up 20-17 at halftime but the Maryland defense clamped down in the second half, only allowing one touchdown. The Maryland offense got going and ended up with a 34-27 victory.
Sure the Terp defense gave up over 500 yards of total offense but that is going to happen facing a high powered SMU offense. They contained when they needed to do so, especially in the second half.
Maryland is now 3-0 and they have a huge test next week in Ann Arbor against the Wolverines.
After the tough loss against Washington State in Week 2, the Badgers needed a game like they had against New Mexico State. The game was never in doubt as the Badgers won 66-7.
Quarterback Graham Mertz tossed three scores and sensational running back Braelon Allen also added three of his own. The Badger defense did what it typically does, holding the Aggies under 250 yards total offense and caused three turnovers.
Wisconsin now gets to Big Ten play and it is a tough challenge to start. Columbus at night next Saturday.
