Notre Dame football and Nebraska have surprised in a negative fashion, while Kansas, Florida State, and the Pac-12 have been among college football’s pleasant surprises.

The 2022 college football season is just a few weeks old, and already, there have been some jaw-dropping upsets.

We have seen multiple top-10 teams lose to unranked opponents from the Group of Five. We have also seen Nebraska football and Arizona State move on from head coaches before the start of conference play.

Most college football teams will enter conference play this week, although many others have already played a league game.

Schedules are a lot different now but most of the non-conference games are over and here are the five biggest surprises so far during the 2022 college football season.

Notre Dame football’s horrendous start

Most college football pundits expected Notre Dame to compete for a playoff spot this season. However, after a 1-2 start and a challenging schedule, a bowl game isn’t guaranteed for the Irish.

The injury to quarterback Tyler Buchner hurt, but he played most of the game against Marshall and threw the interception that seemed to doom Notre Dame football to defeat.

Most were impressed after the opening week against Ohio State and there are still nine games left for the Irish to prove everyone wrong, but so far, this team isn’t what anyone thought it would be and that’s one of the bigger surprises.

App State beating Texas A&M might have found its way onto this list too here, at least as a monumental upset and it was, but Marshall beating Notre Dame and the Irish being a Hail Mary away from possibly starting 0-4 under Marcus Freeman isn’t something I expected.
