College Football Week 4 Upset Alert: USC, Oregon and Texas beware
Looking ahead to College Football Week 4, here are five times that need to be on upset alert.
As I said before, it’s kind of hard to know what an upset is anymore in college football. No. 17 Baylor is the underdog at Iowa State, yet the Bears are ranked higher, so it’s an upset is it not, if Iowa State wins the game?
Even if the oddsmakers had the Cyclones as a favorite, which they do. Matt Campbell’s team is favored by 2.5 points according to Fanduel. Arkansas and Texas A&M is another one of these.
The Aggies are ranked 23rd and are 2-1 after the loss to App State. Arkansas is ranked 10th and the game is on a neutral field yet Texas A&M is a slight -2.5 favorite according to Fanduel.
Arkansas has looked pretty good so far this season but had its hands full with Missouri State last week. We’ll start with the Hogs, who as a top-10 team on a neutral field, would qualify as an upset in my book, even if it’s a small one.
No. 23 Texas A&M (-2.5) vs No. 10 Arkansas
Some Texas A&M football fans might bristle at the thought of the Aggies beating Arkansas qualifying as an upset, but as I said, a top-10 team is a top-10 team.
The Aggies have won 10 of the last 11 in this series but Sam Pittman has built Arkansas into a different kind of program. KJ Jefferson struggled last week but he was on point in the win over Cincinnati and is the key to a win on Saturday at Jerry’s World.
Raheim Sanders is going to be important too. The Razorbacks don’t have the same weapons, namely Treylon Burks, that they did a year ago. Burks was huge in the win over the Aggies.
If Sanders gets over 100 yards as he has in the first three games of the season, there’s a good chance Arkansas will win this game. However, I don’t see that happening against Texas A&M and the secondary will make it tough on Burks, just as they did Tyler Van Dyke last week.
Max Johnson and the offense might not have a huge day, but if the Aggies can score somewhere in the 20s, I believe they’ll pull the upset and cover the spread.
