If you were looking for a classic rivalry battle, you found it on Saturday night between Texas A&M and Arkansas football.

The Razorbacks looked like they were going to make a statement and pick up a big win in this series, but that 14-0 lead in the first quarter was quickly erased. Arkansas wasn’t able to keep that momentum going as Texas A&M scored the next 23 straight points.

Arkansas struggled in the second and third quarters and made a late comeback and nearly pulled off an impressive win, scoring a touchdown to pull within two and then it had a chance to take the lead with 1:30 left but Cam Little bounced a field goal try off the top of the upright in a heart-wrenching miss that I’ve never quite seen before.

What did we learn from this heartbreaking 23-21 loss by Arkansas?

3. Arkansas football lost a game of inches

This was one of those excruciating losses that probably should have gone the other way. Arkansas lost this game by literal inches on two different instances.

Earlier in the game, KJ Jefferson tried to jump over the goal-line for a touchdown of his own and he fumbled the ball. In the first half, Arkansas fumbled and it was returned for a touchdown when it looked like the Razorbacks were going to add another score before halftime to go up 21-7 or 17-7. That was a massive momentum-shifter.

Then, in the final two minutes, Cam Little missed a field goal off the top of the upright which would have given the Razorbacks a 24-23 lead.

Football is a game of inches and Arkansas just didn’t have them on Saturday.
