Kansas Football: 3 Takeaways from home win against Duke
By Dante Pryor
Three takeaways from Kansas football’s 35-27 win against Duke.
Kansas Jayhawks quarterback Jalon Daniels put on a show in Lawrence this afternoon as the Jayhawks held on for the 35-27 win against the Duke Blue Devils. This game was a back-and-forth affair; Kansas shut the Blue Devils out in the third quarter to take control of a game that was 21-13 at halftime.
The Blue Devils hung around the entire game, coming within one score five times but could not force a key turnover or get a defensive stop to turn the score. The primary reason for Duke not being able to turn the score was Daniels. The junior from Lawndale, California, threw for 324 yards and four touchdowns while running for 83 yards and one score.
The Kansas defense wasn’t great but made key stops in the first half and third quarter that kept them in the lead. Duke quarterback Riley Leonard did his best to match Daniels, throwing for 324 yards, one touchdown, and running for 54 more yards.
Kansas did its best to put Duke in a position to tie the game late with multiple interference penalties and a roughing the quarterback penalty that put the Blue Devils in plus territory with less than two minutes to go in the game. Duke could not take advantage, turning the ball over on downs after Leonard threw an incomplete pass.
Here are three takeaways from the game.
