The heartbreak was palpable when Arkansas football kicker Cam Little missed the go-ahead field goal with less than two minutes left in the game. The ball hit the top of the upright, did not go past the goal, and fell into the endzone. Arkansas could have had an opportunity to score a touchdown on the same drive had it not been for a low snap and fumble that cost them nine yards.
Arkansas and Texas A&M have played in close games during this entire rivalry and this afternoon was no different. Six of the last ten contests have been decided by a possession. Both defenses played well, making it difficult for each team to move the ball. Texas A&M’s defense was outstanding in containing Razorbacks’ quarterback KJ Jefferson most of the game.
Jefferson finished the game with 171 yards passing, 105 yards rushing, and three total touchdowns. Arkansas did an excellent job against A&M’s offense, limiting the passing game. However, running back Devon Achane was off the chain, rushing for a career-high 159 yards. Achane was instrumental in icing the game late.
What hurt the Razorbacks in this game was their inability to score for nearly three quarters. They scored twice in the first quarter; Arkansas would not score again until the fourth quarter.
Here are three quick thoughts from the game.
