College Football Rankings 2022: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 5

Say goodbye to Oklahoma as a top-10 team this week. The Sooners weren’t able to take care of business at home against Kansas State and no one really saw this loss coming, but maybe it’s a wake-up call for Brent Venables and the Sooners. There’s no way a loss like this should have happened, but we’ve seen this before from Oklahoma teams in the past.

BYU had an opportunity to get back on track after losing to Oregon a week ago in embarrassing fashion and the Cougars weren’t able to handle Wyoming early on like we all thought. The Cougars went on to take a win here, but it wasn’t an easy one as Wyoming continues to be a thorn in everyone’s side this year.

Washington just continues to impress and even the Kent State loss to Georgia showed just how good the Huskies are — they beat the Golden Flashes handily earlier in the year. The Huskies hosted Stanford to kick off Pac-12 play and they did a good enough job to prove that they’re vastly improved from a year ago.

I’m honestly not too sure what I should think of the Ole Miss win over Tulsa. It wasn’t pretty but it also wasn’t close after falling behind 14-7 early. The Rebels scored 28 points in the second quarter to head into halftime with a commanding lead but a donut in the second half on the scoreboard was disappointing. I think Lane Kiffin’s team is still trying to figure things out.

Baylor went into Ames and pulled out a gutsy win against a tough Iowa State team in a game that the Bears were actually underdogs. Baylor is going to be right back there in terms of the Big 12 title race this season and Blake Shapen’s growth at quarterback has been fun to watch.
