Georgia Tech Football: 3 candidates who could replace Geoff Collins
Georgia Tech football finally pulled the plug on Geoff Collins and here are three candidates to replace him as the Yellow Jackets’ next head coach.
It’s not always easy to identify the next great college football head coach and in the case of Georgia Tech football, Geoff Collins wasn’t the guy.
Collins was solid at Temple, winning 15 games in two seasons as head coach. However, that success didn’t translate to the Georgia Tech football program as the Yellow Jackets never won more than three games in a single season under Collins.
The 1-3 start and some ugly losses along the way sealed his fate and on Sunday, it was reported that both Collins and the Georgia Tech AD are out according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
And with that in mind, here are three head coaches Georgia Tech football should consider as his replacement.
Deion Sanders
This is a no-brainer. Sanders has been an immediate success at Jackson State, leading the Tigers to 11 wins last season and it seems like only a matter of time before he makes the transition to the FBS.
The issue for Georgia Tech is going to be landing Sanders. However, he did play for the Falcons and has some ties to the area. He would obviously recruit really well. He’s done a spectacular job recruiting at Jackson State, even landing one of the top players in the country in Travis Hunter, who flipped his commitment from Florida State in 2022.
FSU seems like a perfect fit for Sanders but Mike Norvell is 4-0 and the Noles are back in the top 25. Auburn could also be a fit if Bryan Harsin is fired and for now, the Yellow Jackets would need to be patient, but Sanders should be the No. 1 target.
