1 bold prediction for every Top 25 college football team in Week 5
15. Washington: Huskies trail UCLA for three quarters, dominate fourth
Washington is facing its first true road game of the season and UCLA is going to punch the Huskies in the mouth early on. The Bruins will hold a lead for the first three quarters, putting Washington on upset alert, but Michael Penix Jr. and Co. will come up big in the fourth to score a few times and win the game by 10 points.
14. Ole Miss: Rebels double up Kentucky’s average yards allowed
Kentucky allows about 270 yards per game this season and Ole Miss averages nearly 500 yards per game. Something’s got to give. I think we’ll see Lane Kiffin’s offense put up some points and yardage against the Wildcats, racking up over 500 total yards in a winning effort. A nice top-10 win for the Rebels may actually put them in the top 10 for Week 6.
13. Oregon: Another 400-yard game for Bo Nix
I’ll admit that I’ve been incredibly hard on Bo Nix this season but I think he’s proving myself and others wrong. He’s fresh off a huge 400-yard game at Washington State and I think he’ll have another one against Stanford’s weak defense in Week 5. He’s going to throw for 400 yards and four touchdowns in a rout of the Cardinal at Autzen Stadium.
12. Utah: Tavion Thomas will finally have breakout game
Tavion Thomas had a 1,000-yard season in 2021 and everyone expected big things from him in 2022, but he’s gotten off to a slow start outside of his 115 yards and a touchdown against Florida. Since then, he’s rushed for 167 yards and three touchdowns on 38 carries in three games. I can see him matching or breaking that number against Oregon State on Saturday. I’m predicting a 150-plus yard game with two touchdowns against the Beavers.
11. Penn State: Nittany Lions cover -25.5, keep NW under 200 yards
Is this bold? Maybe not, but I think beating any conference opponent by four touchdowns is a tough task. Northwestern has been that bad this season, though. So that’s why I made this sort of a double-bold prediction. Penn State will beat the Wildcats by four scores and then they’ll also hold Northwestern under 200 total yards. Not a bad way to prove they’re worthy of a top-10 ranking.
