Washington State is a few weeks removed from a huge road win against Wisconsin which may not look so hot now that the Badgers lost at home by 24 to Illinois, but the Cougars took care of Cal on Saturday to improve to 4-1. This should be enough to sneak them into the AP Top 25, just barely.

The “rank Kansas, you cowards” crowd is going to be very happy this week as the Jayhawks took care of business against a pesky Iowa State team at home to improve to 5-0 on the year. Yes, Kansas is 5-0 and looks like one of the best teams in the Big 12. Who would have thought? The Jayhawks are going to have to pay big money to keep Lance Leipold.

NC State put up a decent fight for a half against Clemson on the road and only lost by 10 points but there’s no such thing as a quality loss in college football. AP voters are likely going to drop the Wolfpack 8-10 spots this week for losing by double figures but I feel like everything is over-reactionary that in a normal year, NC State would still be top 15. Still, I see this team somewhere around No. 18.

The Bruins made a statement on Friday night against a really good Washington team, improving to 5-0 on the season. It seems like years ago that UCLA was celebrating a South Alabama win like it won a national title and this Washington win was one of the best of Chip Kelly’s career. Maybe the Bruins have turned the corner as a program. The Pac-12 is surprising some people this year.

Texas Tech has been one of the surprise teams in college football this year, but Kansas State silenced them on Saturday. Kansas State led throughout and picked up a nice nine-point win thanks to the legs of Deuce Vaughn and Adrian Martinez. This team is rolling right now and may be a legit Big 12 contender.
