2. Iowa’s lack of offense allowed Michigan to dictate the game’s flow.

Don’t let the box score fool you; Iowa had less than 100 yards of offense at halftime. The Hawkeyes got nothing going until late in the fourth quarter. It was way too little, way too late for Iowa. They do not have the offense to score quickly. The Hawkeyes’ impotent offense allowed the Wolverines to dictate the game’s flow.

Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines were not going to take a significant risk and allow Iowa to force a turnover to either stay in the game or take the lead. The Hawkeyes are good with a lead, especially on defense. The Wolverines knew coming into this game that they did not have to score, and if they could take a two-possession lead, they would likely win the game, and they did.

Michigan football instead played the field position game, forcing Iowa to drive the football 70 plus yards every drive, something they could not do.

The final score might not have looked like a blowout, but Michigan outclassed Iowa all game long. There was no point in the game where Iowa threatened to win the game.
