Purdue Football upset #21 Minnesota 20-10. Here are three takeaways from the game.

Purdue football has a penchant for upsetting top 25 teams. They’ve done it so much under head coach Jeff Brohm that Purdue has earned a new nickname, the “Spoliermakers.” Most recently, Purdue upset two top 25 teams last season. The Boilermakers defeated Michigan State (ranked 5th at the time) and Iowa (ranked 7th at the time).

The Boilermakers are at it again with their 20-10 upset win against the #21 Minnesota Golden Gophers in Minneapolis this afternoon. The defense and running game carried the day in an un-Purdue-like fashion. Head coach Jeff Brohm knew that his team would be in for a fight against the Gophers.

“It was a long week. I’m tired,” Brohm said. “Because you’ve got to prepare for these guys. They’re sound. They normally don’t beat themselves.”

This game was far from ordinary, with both teams turning the ball three times. Purdue quarterback Aiden O’Connell returned after missing last week’s narrow win against Florida Atlantic University. However, the running game, not the passing game, was the deciding factor in this game.

Purdue running back Devin Mockabee led the Boilermakers in rushing with 112 yards, while Minnesota missed its leading rusher, Mohammed Ibrahim, in this game.
